Your Address in Korea: A Simple Guide to Deliveries

Ordering a meal or receiving a parcel can be harder when the address form is unfamiliar. The most useful preparation is simple: keep one correct Korean address, its English version and your room details together.

_ Read from the area to the door

A Korean road-name address starts with the larger area and moves toward the building. It includes the city or province, the relevant local area, the road name and the building number. Your detailed address can then identify the apartment building, floor or unit.

Words you may seeWhat they mean
도로명주소Road-name address
건물번호Building number on the road
상세주소Details such as building block, floor or unit
우편번호Postal code

The road’s building number and your apartment block number are different details. Keep both when they apply to your home.

_ Keep the apartment details

In apartment details, 동 can identify a building block, 층 a floor and 호 a unit or room. For example, 101동 502호 means building block 101, unit 502. This is an example only, not a complete delivery address.

The word 동 can also appear in a neighbourhood name. Read it in context: a neighbourhood name and an apartment block number serve different purposes.

An address search may identify the building without identifying your own unit. Before placing an order, check that your detailed address is included in the right field.

_ Find the official English version

Use the government’s Road Name Address service to look up your address. Its English address helps you avoid creating your own spelling of road and area names.

English address order differs from Korean order. Copy the official result, add your correct unit details, and follow the labels on the form. There is no need to force every website into the same “Address Line 1” and “Address Line 2” layout.

South Korea uses five-digit postal codes. Check yours with the Korea Post postal code search. Keep any zero at the beginning.

_ Make a private address note

Save these details on your own phone:

  • Your full Korean road-name address
  • Your building block, floor or unit, where needed
  • Your five-digit postal code
  • The official English version
  • The recipient name and contact number you will use

Check the details with your host, landlord or building manager if anything is unclear. Avoid sharing a screenshot of this note publicly.

_ Check the final delivery screen

Before paying, read the saved address again. Check the unit, recipient and contact number. If the service shows a map pin, check that it points to the right building too.

For a hotel or short stay, ask whether the property accepts parcels and how the recipient should be named. Do not assume reception will hold every delivery.

Use delivery instructions for a short request, such as where to leave the parcel if that location is permitted. Keep the unit number in the address itself. Treat door-entry codes as private information and share them only through an appropriate delivery channel when necessary.
