COP17 Biodiversity Talks: How to Read the 30-by-30 Nature Target

At the UN biodiversity talks in Yerevan, the useful question is how much action is moving countries towards those conditions. The COP17 conference is scheduled for 19–30 October 2026 in Armenia. COP means Conference of the Parties: a meeting of the governments that are parties to an agreement. This one concerns the Convention on Biological Diversity, the agreement on the variety of life and its conservation. According to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) , COP17 will hold the first global review of collective progress under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
