Checking a KC Listing in Korea: Match the Model Before You Buy

Information checked: 31 October 2026 (Korea Standard Time).

A shopping page says ‘KC certified’. How do you check which product that claim refers to? Start with the exact model and the number shown for that item, then compare them with the official record. A logo on a listing is only your starting point.

Get the details for your chosen option

Before searching, save the product’s model name, certification or reporting number if supplied, and manufacturer or importer. For an online purchase, make sure those details belong to the size or version you selected. If the listing is unclear, ask the seller for a readable label image.

This is our shopping checklist. Keep the seller’s answer with the listing so you can compare the delivered item later.

Open the record and compare

The government’s Safety Korea walkthrough (Korean) explains that you can search using a KC number, product name, model or manufacturer. On the Safety Korea home page (Korean), open 정보공개 → 인증정보 검색: Information disclosure → Certification information search.

Open the matching result. Compare 모델명 (model), 제조사 (manufacturer), 수입업체 (importer, where shown) and the product photo. Read 인증상태 (certification status), too—not just 인증일자, the certification date. Official records display status separately from the product’s identity.

Model-match example: Suppose the option you selected says ABC-100A, while the record says ABC-100B. These are fictional names. A shared brand or similar photo does not resolve the different suffix. Ask the seller for the record and a readable product label covering the exact option before paying.

Resolve a mismatch before paying

If the model or company differs, or the status is unclear, ask the seller to explain the record for your exact option before buying. Our practical suggestion: save a screenshot with the date you checked. Do not treat a missing result alone as proof that a product is illegal or safe; the applicable requirements depend on the product category.

Check the recall information list (Korean) separately. The Korea Institute of Product Safety’s guidance (Korean) directs consumers to 제품 리콜 → 리콜 정보 검색 and recommends comparing model names, certification numbers, photos and barcodes. Read any matching notice’s instructions before deciding what to do.

A record lookup helps you identify the product and read its published status. Continue to follow the item’s age limits, warnings and instructions.

Search links and the fictional model-match example checked 1 November 2026. Read the current official record and any matching recall notice for your own item.
