FTC Walmart Refunds 2026: Check Your Letter and 90-Day Deadline
| KEYWORD_WORLD · Life · Checked 20 October 2026 (KST) |
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission is sending 65,022 checks totaling more than $9.8 million to people affected by money-transfer fraud at Walmart. The 15 October 2026 announcement says recipients should cash their checks within 90 days, as shown on the check. You do not need to pay a fee to receive an FTC payment.
If a refund letter arrives, verify the programme first, then deal with the check’s date or any correction. This guide explains that sequence and separates the announced payments from messages trying to take more money.

Start with these four checks
- Open the official directory yourself. Type ftc.gov/refunds into your browser. It leads to the FTC’s active refund programmes. Choose Walmart Refunds rather than following an unexpected message’s link.
- Match the programme and the contact. The Walmart refund page names Rust Consulting as the refund administrator—the company handling payments—and gives 1-833-472-1990 for questions. Compare those details with the letter.
- Read your check’s deadline. Keep its accompanying explanation. The announcement gives a 90-day cashing window; use the information printed on your own check. The news date alone does not establish your last day.
- Pause if anything needs correcting. Verify the telephone number through the official directory, then ask the administrator what to do. The FTC’s refund FAQ explains how to request name corrections or help with expired payments.
A useful private note has four entries: the programme name, the verified contact, the date printed on the check, and the action you still need to take. Keeping these together makes it easier to follow up without searching through old messages.
The transfer period matters; eligibility still needs checking
The case-specific refund page describes payments for eligible money transfers completed at Walmart between January 2015 and December 2024. It does not say every person who used a Walmart transfer service during those years receives a check. For a question about your own circumstances, use the administrator rather than treating the date range as a guarantee.
The current page describes checks being sent. It lists no new application instructions when checked for this article. If you received nothing, ask about the programme through the verified contact; avoid paying someone who promises to add you to a list.
The background is a $10 million settlement announced in June 2025. The FTC had alleged that Walmart failed to put effective fraud protections in place for its money-transfer services. The settlement announcement discusses alleged conduct between 2013 and 2018. That case-history period and the refund page’s 2015–2024 transfer period serve different purposes; use the refund page for the current payment description.
The FTC’s explanation of its refund process says it can pay people directly when it has reliable recipient information. Other cases need a claims process. A news report about a settlement therefore does not, by itself, mean everyone must fill out a new form.

What to do when the check needs attention
| Your situation | Your next step |
|---|---|
| A name is wrong or has changed | Call for instructions. The general FTC FAQ says correction requests must be made in writing, by mail or email. |
| The check has expired | Ask whether a replacement is possible. The FAQ makes this dependent on money remaining in the fund. |
| No check arrived | Ask Rust Consulting about this programme. The public page does not establish your individual eligibility or promise a payment. |
Illustrative example: someone receives a letter after moving home and notices an old surname. Their first task is to verify the programme and request the correction instructions. They should not assume that replying to an unrelated text updates the refund record. This is a suggested checking sequence, not an account of a real recipient.
The FAQ also explains that refund amounts can depend on the money recovered and the losses involved. A programme total cannot tell you what your own check should be. This article does not calculate an expected personal payment or promise another round.
A refund should not require another transfer
The FTC says it will not require an upfront fee or sensitive financial details such as a bank account number to obtain its refund. A message demanding payment to release one is a warning sign. Check the programme independently before responding.
For a separate but related risk, the FTC’s wire-money guide describes fake checks followed by instructions to send some money back. Funds appearing in an account do not prove a check is genuine; a fake can be discovered later. Do not let an instruction to send money back substitute for checking the source.
If you have just sent money to a scammer, contact the transfer company or bank immediately and ask whether it can reverse the transfer, as the guide advises. A refund programme covering past events is a different route; do not wait for this mailing to respond to a new loss.
Keep correspondence and receipts privately for any follow-up. In a public comment, leave out check numbers, claim details, addresses and financial information.
