Gyeonggi Provincial Museum: A Free History Stop in Yongin

Information checked: 30 October 2026 (Korea Standard Time).

Looking for an indoor history outing in Yongin without an admission fee? Gyeonggi Provincial Museum (경기도박물관) is a practical choice. Start with its permanent galleries, then leave room to explore the objects that catch your eye.

Save the Yongin address

Use 경기도박물관, 경기도 용인시 기흥구 상갈로 6 in your map app: 6 Sanggal-ro, Giheung-gu, Yongin. Save the Korean name as well as the English one.

The museum’s official directions (Korean) list Sanggal Station, Exit 4, about a 10-minute walk. Check your live route before leaving; that walking estimate does not include your train journey. Free museum admission does not mean free parking—drivers should check the parking section on the same page.

Choose a small slice of history

The Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation’s museum profile (Korean) describes a collection spanning ceramics, documents, excavated clothing, paintings and folk crafts. Its focus is the history and culture of Gyeonggi.

The current permanent exhibition list (Korean) includes Prehistory and Ancient History on the first floor and Goryeo and Joseon on the second. Our suggestion: allow 60–90 minutes, pick one period first, and follow your interests. This is an editorial plan, not an official tour duration.

Check the day before you travel

The official visitor guide (Korean) lists free admission, 10:00–18:00 opening hours and last entry at 17:20. Closures are Mondays, January 1, Seollal day and Chuseok day, plus substitute closure days. If Monday is a public holiday, the museum opens and closes on the first following weekday that is not a public holiday.

Keep food and drinks outside the museum. Do not touch the exhibits or use flash or a tripod. For a visit-specific question, the museum’s visitor information number is 031-288-5400. Recheck the museum’s notices before setting out.
