Laundry Detergent in Korea: Match the Label to Your Washer
Information checked: 1 November 2026 (Korea Standard Time).
Before choosing a scent or a refill size, check which washing machine the detergent is made for. Korean laundry products may be marked for a drum washer, a regular washer or both. The word ‘liquid’ alone does not answer that question.

Read the washer-use words first
Look for these words on the exact bottle or refill pouch you plan to buy:
| Korean label | What it means |
|---|---|
| 드럼용 | For a drum washer |
| 일반용 | For a regular washer |
| 일반/드럼 겸용 | For both regular and drum washers |
These are real product distinctions: LG Household & Health Care’s detergent listings include all three. This is a label-reading example, not a product recommendation.
Check your washer’s model and manual before buying. If its instructions call for drum detergent, a package marked only 일반용 is not the match. A 겸용 product must explicitly include your washer type; do not infer compatibility from a similar package design.
Why the match matters
LG Electronics’ drum-washer guidance tells users to choose drum detergent rather than regular detergent to help prevent excessive foam and leakage. It also says recommended amounts differ between products.
Follow the instructions for your exact washer and detergent together. A general guide cannot settle whether a particular powder, capsule or liquid belongs in your machine’s dispenser.

Then read the dose on this product
Find 표준사용량 (standard amount) or the product’s dosing instructions. If there are separate directions for washer types, use the matching one. Measure as instructed instead of carrying over a capful from a different detergent.
More is not automatically better: LG’s guidance on long wash times says excess detergent or foam can lengthen a drum-washer cycle and advises using the amount on the detergent instructions.
Our practical suggestion: save a photo of your washer’s model and the detergent’s use-and-dose panel. If you share laundry duties, keep that pair together so the next person can check the same instructions. Recheck when you change products, even within one brand.
