Naksan Park After Work: An Easy Seoul Night Walk
You do not need a full free day to enjoy an old part of Seoul. Naksan Park is a practical evening choice when you want fresh air, a city view and a short walk after work.
The park sits beside the Seoul City Wall. The official Visit Seoul page says the park is open all day, every day, and admission is free. This guide gives you a simple route from Hyehwa Station that works well for one person, a couple or friends.
1. Why this walk works after work
Naksan is one of the four inner mountains of old Seoul. It is the lowest of the four, and the official Seoul City Wall guide describes the Naksan section as a gentle route that is suitable for walking.
You can see the wall, the city lights and a mix of old and new neighborhoods without planning a long hike. There is still an uphill walk, so think of it as an easy urban walk, not a flat park visit.
2. Start at Hyehwa Station
Visit Seoul lists Hyehwa Station Exit 2 on Subway Line 4 as the nearest public-transport point, about 627 meters from the park. The official address is 41 Naksan-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
After leaving Exit 2, use your map app to search 낙산공원. Walk slowly through the Daehak-ro side streets and follow the uphill route. The final approach includes a slope and steps in some places.
3. Try this simple 60–90 minute plan
First 20–30 minutes: walk from Hyehwa Station to the park without rushing. Stop briefly when the slope feels steep.
Next 20–30 minutes: follow the wall and choose one or two viewpoints. You do not need to complete the full wall section.
Final 20–30 minutes: return toward Hyehwa for a simple round trip. If you already know the area and still have energy, you can continue toward Dongdaemun, but check the route before you leave the park.
4. The official wall route is longer
The official Seoul City Wall website describes the full Naksan section from Hyehwamun Gate to Gwanghuimun Gate as 3.2 kilometers and about 1 hour 30 minutes on foot. That official section passes Naksan and Heunginjimun before reaching Gwanghuimun.
That time covers the wall section itself. It does not include your walk from the subway, photo stops, dinner or a return trip. For an after-work visit, the shorter out-and-back plan is easier to control.
5. Bring only what helps
- Comfortable shoes with a steady sole
- A light outer layer after sunset
- Water and a charged phone
- A small light if you are not comfortable on dim paths
Check rain, wind and air quality before leaving. Wet stone and leaves can be slippery. If the weather changes or the path feels uncomfortable, turn back on the route you already know.
6. Remember that people live here
The park and wall sit beside real homes. Keep your voice low at night. Do not use bright flash toward windows, enter small residential alleys for a photo or block a doorway.
For an international couple, this is also a useful place to share the history of Seoul without needing a museum visit. Enjoy the view, but let the neighborhood stay quiet.
