Bodum French Press Recall: Check the Size and Put Metal Spoons Away
| KEYWORD_WORLD · Life · 3 November 2026 |
If you own a Bodum French press, check its size and model before your next brew. A US recall covers certain 8-cup and 12-cup models with replaceable glass carafes. Stop stirring coffee inside the glass with metal utensils, and do not use a cracked or damaged carafe.

On 29 October 2026, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of 5.9 million units. A damaged glass carafe can break during use and cause serious burns. Bodum USA reported 70 cases of carafes breaking, including 48 reports of burns.
Which coffee makers are included?
The notice names 8-cup and 12-cup Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper and Kenya French presses with replaceable glass carafes. The combination of line, cup size and replaceable glass matters; the notice does not say that every Bodum coffee maker is included.
Bodum’s name appears on the frame and inside lid of most models and is engraved on the glass along with product warnings. Compare your coffee maker with the photographs in the official notice. If you are unsure of the model or size, ask the company before assuming it is outside the recall.
The notice says the affected products were sold in the US from 1974 through October 2026. An older press may therefore be worth checking too. The dates describe the overall sales period, not the manufacture date of every individual unit.
What to do now
- Set aside any cracked or otherwise damaged glass carafe. CPSC says not to use it.
- Stop using metal spoons or other metal utensils to stir coffee in the glass carafe. They can damage the glass.
- Check the official recall notice for model photographs and contact Bodum about the remedy.

The listed remedy is a plastic stirring spoon and a warning label. In its 29 October statement, Bodum says it will provide these free to affected consumers in the US. The announced remedy is the spoon and label; check the company’s current instructions for your own product.
