Public Toilets in Seoul: Find One Before You Need It

A long walk is easier when you know where to stop. If English map searches are not helping, save this Korean word: 화장실 — restroom or toilet. Use it to find a place, then check how to reach the entrance.

Start with the city's public-toilet map

Seoul's official location guide (IN KOREAN) gives this route: Smart Seoul Map → 도시생활지도 (city life map) → 공중화장실 (public toilets). This is the city's recommended way to locate nearby public toilets.

Open Smart Seoul Map and look for those Korean labels. The homepage includes a 도시생활지도 link. Keep the Korean words in a phone note so you can recognize them even if the page language changes.

Already using Naver Map? Search 화장실

The same city guide also recommends searching 화장실 in Naver Map or Daum Map to find locations. You do not need to learn a long Korean sentence to try this search.

Our practical suggestion: look around the neighborhood where you will actually walk, not just your current location. Save one likely stop near your route and a second option nearby. When going out together, share the selected place rather than only saying 'there is one near the station.'

Check the entrance, not only the pin

A location result is a starting point, not a guarantee of immediate access. Before walking over, look for any available opening-hours or entrance information. Do not assume every result is open all night or that any nearby café or private building welcomes non-customers.

If step-free access, an accessible cubicle or a baby-changing space matters, confirm that specific feature with the facility. A general restroom pin alone does not establish it. If the entrance is locked or the information is unclear, use your backup rather than trying to enter a restricted area.

This guide covers finding locations in Seoul. It does not verify the condition, accessibility or opening time of an individual toilet. For background on the service, see Seoul's Smart Seoul Map overview (IN KOREAN).

Information checked: 15 October 2026 (Korea Standard Time). The city's restroom-location page was last updated on 15 July 2025; its map-service overview was updated on 4 March 2026. Map layouts and local access conditions may change.
