WMO’s 2025 CO2 Record: What 426.8 ppm Means

Image
KEYWORD_WORLD · News · Checked 28 October 2026 (KST) 426.8 ppm describes the average concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere in 2025. It tells us how much CO2 was present relative to air. The new WMO report also records a further annual increase, even though that increase was smaller than the previous year’s exceptional rise. The World Meteorological Organization published Greenhouse Gas Bulletin No. 22 on 27 October 2026 . Its main annual observations cover 2025 . Keep those two dates together when reading a headline: the publication year and the year being measured serve different purposes. Start with the measurement · Read the annual increase · Separate the scales · Check a climate headline Start with the gas, year and unit The Bulletin’s summary gives the following globally averaged surface concentrations. The plus/minus figures are the uncertainties published by WMO. Retain them when copying the measurements. Gas 2025 level Unit Carbon dioxide (CO2) 426.8 ± 0...

Thwaites Glacier Study 2026: What the 3 cm Sea-Level Estimate Means

Image
KEYWORD_WORLD · News · Checked 23 October 2026 (KST) A new Thwaites Glacier study puts its contribution to global average sea level at about 3 cm by 2100 in one model setup—roughly twice a comparison estimate. This is one glacier’s projected contribution under stated conditions. It is not a forecast of total sea-level rise or the water depth outside a particular home. The useful question is what changed in the model, and what that number can tell a coastal reader. Start with the ice, then check the units, assumptions and location. What changed · Read the number · Global and local · Coastal checks A wider zone where seawater meets the ice NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory explained the research on 20 October , following the paper’s publication on 12 October 2026. Researchers at JPL, the University of California, Irvine, and Dartmouth studied how to represent the edge where land-supported ice starts to float. A grounding line is that boundary. A grounding zone is a wider tran...
